Alpine Habitat Diversity - HABITALP
Work package 5 - Census and ortho-rectification of
colour infrared aerial photographs
Management: Parc Naziunal Svizzer (SNP)
Duration: 11/2002 – 03/2005
Work package 5 sets the groundwork with the necessary elements for all further work packages. In all participating protected areas, a surface covering survey of the existing land cover types is undertaken. Natural habitat types as well as human influenced land use types are included.
The project partners contract specialized flight companies that fly over the protected areas and take aerial photographs. The image is captured on CIR (colour infrared) film, which allows in particular for the identification of different vegetation covers.
The flights are organized in a decentralized manner by national groups of project partners. In order to produce a uniform technical standard, the national groups and the Swiss National Park work out harmonized technical specifications which must be taken into account during the tender procedures and the subsequent contracts with different flight companies.
Once the film is developed, the flight companies transfer the aerial photographs into digital format and prepare the digital data for the following interpretation process in work package 7.
As a result of work package 5, all project partners will have access to digital, processed and georeferenced orthophotos in local projection and reference systems.
