Alpine Habitat Diversity - HABITALP
Work package 7 - Application of harmonized interpretation key

Management: Nationalpark Berchtesgaden
Duration: 04/2004 – 06/2006

In work package 7, the interpretation key and the mapping instructions developed in work package 6 are applied.

The project partners are charging their aerial image interpreters individually on local level. Qualification criteria are provided by work package 6.

Prior training of the interpreters in work package 6 guarantees a uniform technical standard and the results can therefore be compared on an alpine wide scale.

On the digital orthophotos resulting from work package 5, the aerial image interpreters outline the recognizable habitats according to uniform criteria by the aid of the mapping instructions and assign them to the corresponding "CIR habitat types" listed in the interpretation key.

During the interpretation, further adjustments of the key and the mapping instructions will take place. The project team will continuously integrate these changes into work package 6.

The interpreters will check their results in the field. In order to do this, they will work in close collaboration with the local experts of the project partners. If possible, they will simultaneously verify the correlation to the NATURA 2000 habitat types elaborated in work package 8.

As a result of work package 7, digital maps of natural habitats and land use types in the participating protected areas will be available. After arranging the data in a harmonized format, the project partners will provide their CIR habitat cartographies for the subsequent work packages 8, 9 and 10.
